Trade uPVC tilt and turn windows
Tilt and turn windows open inward two ways from one handle: tilted from the bottom for secure ventilation, or turned on side hinges to open fully. They are popular for flats and high-rise work where cleaning from outside is not possible.

Who orders trade uPVC tilt and turn windows?
Mostly window and door installers, housing developers, housing associations and their contractors and landlords and property managers. Typical uses include flats and apartment blocks; bedrooms needing an escape opening; windows above roofs or walkways.
Tilt and turn windows are a common choice where the outside of the glass cannot be reached, because the sash turns fully into the room for cleaning.
The tilt position gives ventilation with the sash still locked into the frame at the bottom, which suits ground-floor flats and rooms on busy streets.
For bedrooms that need an escape window, a tilt and turn sash can give a large clear opening from a single sash. Give us the clear opening you need; the quote shows the clear opening the sash gives, and your installer confirms it meets the escape requirement.
Large sashes are heavy, so we check each size against the hinge rating for the system before confirming your order.
How should you measure?
Tilt and turn sashes open into the room, so check that blinds, radiators, deep sills and furniture will clear the sash before you confirm the size.
Which building regulations apply?
Replacement windows in England should meet Approved Document L: a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or a Window Energy Rating of band B. Approved Document F expects background ventilation to be no worse than before, which usually means trickle vents. Glazing in critical locations must break safely, be robust or in small panes, or be permanently protected under Approved Document K, which in practice usually means toughened or laminated safety glass. Rooms that need an escape route may need an escape window under Approved Document B. Replacing windows is notifiable building work: the installer self-certifies through a competent person scheme such as FENSA or Certass, or the work goes through building control.
Wales
In Wales the Welsh Government's own Approved Documents apply. Replacement windows must meet the thermal values in Approved Document L (Wales), which differ from England in places, and safety glazing in critical locations is covered by Approved Document N in Wales. Replacing windows is notifiable building work, normally self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme or approved by building control.
Scotland
In Scotland the Building (Scotland) Regulations and the Technical Handbooks apply. Replacing windows in a house does not normally need a building warrant, but the new windows must still meet the building standards, including the energy standards in Section 6 and the safety glazing standard in Section 4. Listed buildings and conservation areas have their own controls, so check with the local authority.
Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) apply, with guidance in the Technical Booklets: Booklet F1 covers energy in dwellings and Booklet V covers glazing safety. Contact your council's building control service before replacing windows to confirm what application is needed.
More detail: Approved Document L guide safety glazing guide. Your installer or designer remains responsible for compliance and any notification.

Questions trade customers ask
Do tilt and turn windows open inwards?
Yes. The top of the sash tilts inward, hinged at the bottom, for ventilation, or the whole sash turns inward on side hinges to open fully.
Can tilt and turn windows be used as escape windows?
Often, yes, because the turned sash gives a large clear opening. Tell us the clear opening you need and the quote shows what the sash gives; your installer confirms it meets the escape requirement.
Are tilt and turn windows secure?
The sash locks into the frame at points all around its edge. They can be specified to PAS 24 where the job needs it.
Can I have tilt and turn and casement windows on the same order?
Yes. Mix types on one schedule and each window is priced separately.
