Who orders trade uPVC doors?

Mostly window and door installers, landlords and property managers, property maintenance companies and builders and main contractors. Typical uses include back and side doors; rental property refurbishments; utility and garage access doors.

uPVC doors are a practical choice for back and side entrances where value and low maintenance matter more than a front-door look.

Glazed panels can be clear, obscure or toughened, and glass within the door is safety glass as the regulations require.

For rental properties, plain lever handles and a straightforward panel style keep replacement simple if hardware gets damaged later.

Order matching windows on the same schedule and the colours and finishes are matched across the job.

How should you measure?

Measure the opening and note the floor finish level; a low threshold may need a step or drainage detail outside.

Which building regulations apply?

Replacement external doors in England should meet a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K under Approved Document L. Glass in doors and side panels below 1500mm is a critical location under Approved Document K, so it must break safely (toughened or laminated to BS EN 12600), be robust or in small panes, or be permanently protected. Doors into new homes also need to meet Approved Document Q for security, which is usually shown with PAS 24. Replacing a door that is more than half glazed is notifiable building work, self-certified through a competent person scheme or approved by building control.

Wales

In Wales, replacement external doors must meet Approved Document L (Wales), and glass in doors and side panels in critical locations must meet the safety glazing guidance in Approved Document N, usually with toughened or laminated safety glass. Replacing a door that is more than half glazed is notifiable building work, self-certified through a competent person scheme or approved by building control.

Scotland

In Scotland, replacement doors in a house do not normally need a building warrant, but they must still meet the building standards in the Technical Handbooks, including energy and safety glazing. Check with the local authority for flats, listed buildings and conservation areas.

Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, replacement doors should meet the energy guidance in Technical Booklet F1, and glass in doors and side panels the glazing safety guidance in Booklet V. Check with your council's building control service before work starts.
