Ordering and accounts

Who can buy from Trade Glazing UK?

Businesses that buy glazing products for their own jobs or clients: installers, builders, developers, landlords, housing providers, shopfitters and maintenance companies. Apply for a trade account to order at trade prices.

Do you install?

No. We supply products to trade customers who install them or employ their own installers.

How do I get a price?

Email us your schedule, send a photo of it on WhatsApp, or put the details in a trade price request. The guide price tool gives a ballpark figure first.

Are the prices on the website fixed?

No. They are guide trade prices, ex VAT and supply only, to help with budgeting. Your price is confirmed on a written quote.

Do prices include VAT?

Trade prices on this site are shown excluding VAT. Where VAT applies, it is added at the current rate and shown on your quote and invoice.

Do prices include delivery?

No. Delivery is priced separately on your quote according to the delivery postcode and the order.

How long do orders take?

uPVC windows and doors are typically made in 3 to 4 weeks, aluminium windows and doors in 4 to 5 weeks and steel-look windows in 4 to 6 weeks from a confirmed order. Other products are confirmed when you order.

Can I return a made-to-measure item?

Made-to-measure items are made to your specification and cannot be returned for a change of mind or wrong measurements. Faulty goods are dealt with under our terms and your legal rights.

Do you deliver across the UK?

Yes. Mainland deliveries run on our standard routes; Highland, island and Northern Ireland deliveries are quoted for the postcode.

Can I visit a showroom?

We are a trade supplier and do not run a public showroom. Ask us for product information or samples where available.

Can you supply products for listed buildings?

We can quote products suited to period properties, but the local council decides what is acceptable on listed buildings and in conservation areas. Check with them first.

Do you supply fire doors?

Not as standard. Fire doors must be certified doorsets, which are a separate specialist product.

What information do I need for a quote?

Sizes in millimetres (width first), quantities, finishes, glass and options for each item, plus the delivery postcode.

Who is the contract with?

Orders are placed with and invoiced by S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which trades as Trade Glazing UK.

Windows

What sizes can you make uPVC casement windows in?

Each window is made to the frame size you give us, within the limits of the profile and the weight the hinges are rated for. Very large or very small sashes are checked when we price your schedule and we tell you if a layout needs an extra mullion or transom. uPVC casement windows

Do the windows meet building regulations?

They can be specified to meet the thermal values in the building regulations for where the job is, with trickle vents, safety glass and escape hinges added where the regulations call for them. Your installer is responsible for any notification or approval the job needs: in England and Wales usually through a competent person scheme; in Northern Ireland through council building control; in Scotland, replacement windows in a house do not normally need a warrant but must meet the standards. uPVC casement windows

What is the difference between flush sash and standard casement windows?

On a standard casement the sash sits proud of the frame. On a flush sash it closes into the frame so both faces are level, which gives the look of a traditional timber casement. uPVC flush sash windows

Can flush sash windows be used in a conservation area?

Sometimes. Whether uPVC is acceptable is a planning decision for the local council, so check with them before you order for a property in a conservation area or a listed building. uPVC flush sash windows

Do uPVC sliding sash windows tilt for cleaning?

Yes. Both sashes tilt inward so the outside of the glass can be cleaned from inside the room. uPVC sliding sash windows

Can you match the glazing bar pattern of existing windows?

Yes. Tell us the pattern for each sash, for example six over six or two over two, and whether you want bars that look applied or sit between the panes. uPVC sliding sash windows

Do tilt and turn windows open inwards?

Yes. The top of the sash tilts inward, hinged at the bottom, for ventilation, or the whole sash turns inward on side hinges to open fully. uPVC tilt and turn windows

Can tilt and turn windows be used as escape windows?

Often, yes, because the turned sash gives a large clear opening. Tell us the clear opening you need and the quote shows what the sash gives; your installer confirms it meets the escape requirement. uPVC tilt and turn windows

Are aluminium windows warm enough for building regulations?

Thermally broken aluminium windows can be specified to meet the thermal values for replacement windows. Tell us where the job is; the glazing can be specified to suit, and the U-value is stated on your quote. Aluminium windows

Can you supply aluminium windows in any colour?

They are powder coated, so most RAL colours are available, in matt, satin or textured finishes. Dual colour is also available. Aluminium windows

Are these real steel windows?

No. They are slim aluminium windows designed to look like traditional steel windows, with a thermal break for better insulation. Steel-look aluminium windows

Can I choose the glazing bar pattern?

Yes. Send the pattern per window, or an elevation drawing, and it is confirmed on your quote. Steel-look aluminium windows

Doors

What is a composite door made of?

A GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) skin bonded over a solid insulating core, set in a frame with a threshold and hardware. Composite doors

Are your composite doors fire doors?

No. Standard composite doors are not fire-rated. If the door is a fire door, for example onto a common stair in a block of flats, it needs a certified fire doorset, which is a different product. Composite doors

Can uPVC doors be supplied in colours?

Yes, foiled colours and woodgrains are available on one or both sides. uPVC doors

Is the glass in a uPVC door safety glass?

Yes. Glass in doors and side panels is in a critical location under the building regulations, so it is supplied as safety glass. uPVC doors

Do French doors open in or out?

Either. In the UK most open outward to save room space. Tell us which you need. uPVC French doors

Can French doors have side panels?

Yes, fixed glazed side panels can be added to one or both sides. uPVC French doors

How many panes can a uPVC patio door have?

Two, three or four panes, with one or more sliding panels depending on the layout. uPVC patio doors

Which side slides?

You choose. State the sliding panel and the direction it opens, viewed from outside. uPVC patio doors

How many panels should a bifold door have?

That depends on the width and how you want the panels to stack. As a rough guide, each panel is up to about a metre wide; we will suggest a layout when you send the opening size. Aluminium bifold doors

Do bifolds fold inward or outward?

Either. Outward folding is more common because it keeps the panels out of the room. Aluminium bifold doors

How big can sliding door panels be?

That depends on the system and glass. We confirm maximum panel sizes and weights when we price your opening. Aluminium sliding doors

Bifold or sliding doors?

Bifolds open almost the whole width; sliders open part of it but keep larger glass panels and slimmer sightlines. Our guide compares the two. Aluminium sliding doors

Can you supply panic hardware?

Yes, panic and emergency exit hardware can be specified. The fire strategy for the building decides what is needed. Aluminium entrance doors

Do you supply automatic doors?

No. We supply manual aluminium doors; automatic operators are a separate specialist product. Aluminium entrance doors

Roof glazing

How do I measure for a roof lantern?

Give us the external size of the finished upstand. The lantern is made to sit on that kerb. Roof lanterns

Do roof lanterns need building regulations approval?

A lantern in a new extension is part of the extension's building regulations approval. A replacement should meet the thermal requirements for rooflights. Roof lanterns

Why does a flat rooflight need a fall?

So rainwater runs off instead of sitting on the glass. The upstand or the unit provides the slope. Flat rooflights

Is the glass safe overhead?

The inner pane is laminated so broken glass stays held together. Flat rooflights

Do I need building regulations approval to put a tiled roof on a conservatory?

In England and Wales a solid roof usually takes the conservatory out of the building regulations exemption, so building control approval is normally needed. Rules differ in Scotland and Northern Ireland; check locally. Conservatory roofs

Can the existing frames take a tiled roof?

That must be checked on site by your installer or an engineer. The roof system is designed around what is there. Conservatory roofs

Sealed units and glass

How do I measure a sealed unit?

Measure the glass itself, width then height, with the beads removed. Also measure the overall thickness. Double glazed sealed units

Can you make units to match my existing windows?

Yes. Give us the size, thickness, glass type and spacer colour of the units you are replacing. Double glazed sealed units

Can I put triple glazing in my existing windows?

Only if the frames have a deep enough rebate and hardware rated for the extra weight. Most older frames do not. Triple glazed units

Is triple glazing worth it?

It lowers heat loss through the glass and can help with noise. Whether it is worth the extra cost depends on the property and the frames. Triple glazed units

Can toughened glass be cut to size after it is made?

No. It must be cut and processed before toughening. Give us exact sizes and all holes and cut-outs. Toughened safety glass

Where do I need safety glass?

Building regulations require glazing in critical locations, such as doors, side panels and glazing near floor level, to break safely, be robust or in small panes, or be protected. Toughened or laminated safety glass is the usual way to meet that. Toughened safety glass

What is 6.4mm laminated glass?

Two 3mm panes bonded with a 0.38mm interlayer, a common safety laminate. Laminated and acoustic glass

Does acoustic glass really reduce noise?

An acoustic interlayer reduces noise more than standard laminated glass of the same thickness. The overall result also depends on the frame and how the window is fitted. Laminated and acoustic glass

Commercial aluminium

Do I need planning permission for a new shopfront?

Do you install shopfronts?

No. We supply fabricated systems to trade customers for their own teams to install. Aluminium shopfront systems

Do you design curtain walling?
