Toughened or laminated glass?
The difference between toughened and laminated safety glass and where each is used.
Toughened glass
Heat-treated to be several times stronger than float glass. If it breaks, it shatters into small pieces. It cannot be cut after toughening.
Laminated glass
Two or more panes bonded with an interlayer. If it breaks, the pieces stay held in place. It can be cut after manufacture.
Where each is used
Toughened is common in doors and low-level glazing. Laminated is used overhead, for security and for acoustic glazing.
