Casement, flush sash or sliding sash?
How the three main window styles differ and where each suits.
Casement
Side-hung or top-hung sashes that sit proud of the frame. The most common and the best value.
Flush sash
Sashes close flush into the frame, giving the look of a traditional timber casement. Often chosen for period homes.
Sliding sash
Two sashes slide vertically, replacing traditional box sash windows. More hardware and more cost, but the right look for Georgian and Victorian houses.
Planning
In conservation areas and on listed buildings, the council decides what is acceptable. Check before ordering.
